About Us
Located on beautiful Vancouver Island our small farm is ideally suited to breeding alpacas. We have a mild temperate climate and protected surroundings. Our farm in Nanoose Bay is approximately 15 minutes north of Nanaimo and is surrounded by beautiful Arbutus trees on top of a hill overlooking the Strait of Georgia in the distance. This picturesque setting gave our farm its name "Arbutus Ridge Alpacas". At Arbutus Ridge Alpacas the main focus of our breeding program is to breed high quality grey and black alpacas with exceptional fleece characteristics and superior conformation.
We are both practicing veterinarians and bring a strong background and understanding of animal care and genetics to our farm. In our efforts to produce the perfect alpaca in grey, the rarest of colours, we have taken the best genetics from Peruvian, Bolivian and Chilean lines. Our high quality huacayas carry genetics from Accoyo El Presidente, Victor's Vaccoyo, Accoyo Juliaca, Peruvian Valor, Peruvian Ultima, Bolivian Ice Man, Lionel, Tell Hot Shot, Rockamundo, Greystone, Mario and Zorro!
Our grey alpacas have done exceptionally well in the show ring with Championships, Reserve Championships and many first place showings. Platinum Ice, the only Dual Registered Grey herdsire out of Bolivian Iceman, has been working very hard and the first crop of Platinum Ice crias did very well in the show ring this year and there are more on the way!
We bought our first alpaca in 1999 although we have been following the alpaca industry closely since 1990. Prior to becoming a veterinarian, Jayne raised championship angora goats and brings that knowledge with her to our alpaca program. We have learned a lot over the years and pride ourselves in providing superior after sales service and support. Anyone who purchases one of our alpaca family can always call us for advice on any aspect of their care or breeding.
If you would like to come and visit our farm and meet with us and our alpacas please call or email and we will do our best to accommodate you.
See you on the Island!
